It’s easy to sit back and tell someone they should go for it – to encourage friends and family to pursue their dreams and strive to be happy. I always knew I wanted that for myself – and for a long time I thought I had it.
If someone were to look at a photo of my life at that time, they would have sworn I was the happiest girl in the world. The truth is, on paper I was. Or should have been. But something was missing.
I grew up moving around a lot and as an adult I traveled quite a bit, as well. It wasn’t until I lost someone very close to me that I realized I needed to take a mental inventory of my life and of myself. What did I like about my life and my accomplishments? What did I want to achieve that I hadn’t yet? And if I died tomorrow, would I be content with how I had lived my life so far?
I quickly realized things needed to change. Big time.
I talked with my husband, Michael, about what we had done so far and what we still wanted to do. We were still young (ish) and had time for lots of things, but what we really wanted more than anything else was to travel the world. We loved the adventure of visiting new places, meeting unique people, and immersing ourselves in different cultures. This what was we both needed more of in our lives and we decided to just go for it.
Soon enough we found ourselves giving up dates nights and dinners out. No more shoes shopping or going to the movies. It was time to buckle down and get serious if we really wanted to make this happen. We also started selling all our belongings and we put our house up for sale.
Roughly one year later we had enough money to set sail in our new life. We had researched ways to make money while traveling so we decided to focus primarily on travel blogging and teaching online courses. We had enough experiences combined to write an entire series of books so we figured why not use what we have learned to help teach other people how to pursue their lives of freedom, too??
Michael and I have a real passion for traveling. It’s in our blood like DNA. And now that we are living our dream and traveling the world year-round we couldn’t possibly be any happier! In the 4 years we have been traveling full time we have visited more than 45 countries, dined in some of the world’s most exquisite restaurants, stayed in the most luxurious hotels, and even basked in the sun on the most sought after beaches on Earth.
I personally work no more than four hours a day and it’s usually from the comfort of my pajamas while typing away on my laptop. Sometimes I’m in a hotel room and sometimes I’m on a private beach. Wherever I am at any given moment is home for me though – because now I’m living on my terms and I’m living out my dreams. I do some blogging, create content for my online courses, and the rest of the time I’m simply enjoying life!
