“Antarctica is the last frontier.”

Experiencing the surreal Salisbury Plain in South Georgia!

Join Divergent Travel Trips for our second group trip to Antarctica! This will be our fifth time to the 7th continent, and cannot wait to share this amazing place with you!

Spend 20 days with us on the ultimate expedition that will take us to the Antarctic Peninsula and then to the ruggedly remote South Georgia – known as the Serengeti of the South.

Our expedition dates also align with PEAK whale watching and penguin chick-fledging! March is one of Antarctica’s most active wildlife months.

Less than 1% of the population will ever visit Antarctica. Even less than that will also visit South Georgia. We offer you the opportunity to do both of these things on this expedition!

Our trip will be operated in partnership with the award-winning polar expedition company, Aurora Expeditions. This means we’ll have access to an incredible expedition team – trust us when we say these guides are legends.

We have been on their expeditions in the past and have worked closely with them to offer very exclusive pricing for our group on this unique itinerary.

We will spend expedition time crossing the Drake Passage, visiting the South Shetland Islands, exploring the Antarctic Peninsula, crossing the Scotia Sea, and visiting South Georgia, all while learning about the famous voyage and misadventures of Sir Ernest Shackleton. Each touchpoint offers us different landscapes to explore, wildlife to observe, and activities.

Every single day in Antarctica and South Georgia you will get off the ship! We are not just sailing by. You’ll get to touch, smell, feel, and explore this stunning continent.

Our expert expedition team will be off the ship with us, exploring and educating. Onboard, they will offer educational seminars so you can truly get to know this wild place.

Using the expedition ship, Greg Mortimer, as our base, we’ll explore this extreme region of the world in comfort. You’ll be offered prime photography opportunities and assistance with your settings to ensure you get great photos if you desire.

Daily activities include zodiac cruises, landings, snow hiking, kayaking (extra), paddling excursions (extra), snorkeling (extra), and wildlife spotting. Our days will be dictated by weather conditions and animal sightings.

Something to note: You do not need to be a photographer to join this trip. The focus of this trip is to provide a full immersion into the wildness of Antarctica & South Georgia. But, if you want to take photos, we’ll have amazing opportunities to do so.

If all you have is an iPhone, no worries! We can help you achieve the most with it.

If photography is of no interest to you at all, that’s ok too. Bring your binoculars and get ready for some incredible sightings.

Trip Details:

The dates of this group trip are March 16 – April 4, 2025.

Our group trip is not the shortest, standard trip to Antarctica. It is a 20-day trip that also visits South Georgia.

Most expedition companies only offer this itinerary a couple of times per season.

The trip is also during peak wildlife viewing season. If you go in the earlier months (November & December) you’ll see some wildlife, but most have still not finished their migration south. By going in March, you’ll be in the thick of the southern summer with migrations completed.

You’ll also enjoy some incredible sunrises and sunsets – as the southern winter approaches. Earlier season visits have almost 24 hours of daylight. This makes March pretty epic for photography.

We have negotiated EXCLUSIVE PRICING for our group on this unique itinerary. This is the cheapest price available for this expedition, anywhere.

The only way to get this pricing is to join our group.

Lastly, we know this is a big trip, so we are also offering a payment plan option. A deposit of $1,500 is required to secure your cabin on the trip with the remainder due by November 1, 2024. This means you’ll have over a year to make monthly or small lump-sum payments for this trip.

Trip Cost:

All prices are in USD and per person based on twin shares.

Traveling solo and willing to share a room to save? We match solo travelers with other solo travelers of the same gender who indicate they are willing to share. Both guests avoid the single supplement. Should we be unable to find a cabin mate for a Request-Share traveler, the single supplement is waived. It is a risk free way to save for adventurers who travel alone.

Trip Itinerary, Lodging, and Activities Overview:

Below you will find a full overview of the expedition that we are offering for our group trip. This document includes an overview of the itinerary, ship, activities, food, and general information about the expedition.

It is comprehensive and should offer everything you would want to know about this epic trip we’re offering to you!

Note: Other than the days we embark and disembark the ship, this is not a fixed itinerary, however, this will give you an idea of what to expect.

How to Get to Ushuaia, Argentina:

Ezeiza Airport (EZE) is the largest international airport in Argentina and most likely your port of arrival. Most (if not all) flights from the USA arrive in the morning, and you’ll need to clear immigration and customs, before taking a domestic flight to Ushuaia.

To save money, we generally recommend that you book your flight to Buenos Aires separately from your flight to Ushuaia. Argentina Aerolineas is pretty much the only airline in the country, so you’ll need to book with them for your Buenos Aires to Ushuaia flight.

When making these bookings, pay attention to the Buenos Aires airport codes. There are two airports in the city, EZE, and AEP. All international flights arrive in EZE and most domestic flights depart from AEP. Make sure you leave a minimum of 5 hours between your EZE arrival time and AEP departure times.

You will need to arrive in Ushuaia, Argentina no later than March 16, 2025.

At the end of the trip, on April 4, 2025, do not book any departing flights from Ushuaia before 12 pm in case of any delays in returning to port.

FAQ:

Is this trip only for photography?

Absolutely not! While we will be offering help to those who are interested in photographing wildlife and landscapes, this is not a photography workshop. So if you never take a photo the whole trip, you’re still welcome. We do, however, recommend that you bring binoculars! You will see A LOT of wildlife on this trip.

How fit should I be?

This trip is rated Moderate. You will be walking on the snow-covered ground and loading/unloading into moving zodiac boats throughout the trip.

Will I have time to do my own thing?

Due to the nature of being in Antarctica & South Georgia, this entire itinerary is part of a supervised program. If you want to go on adventures, it has to be with our group. That said, if you want to forego any activities in favor of rest and relaxation on the ship, this is possible.

Will there be WiFi or phone service?

You will not have phone service once the ship leaves port in Ushuaia. The ship does offer free WIFI packages. Please note, the internet connection is slow. We recommend that you plan to disconnect entirely and be present while in Antarctica & South Georgia. It’s a place of wonders you do not want to miss.

What’s the weather like in Antarctica & South Georgia?

We will be visiting during the southern summer season. It will be during the warmest time in this part of the world. That said, temperatures will hover at or just above freezing for most of the visit.

Can I charge my electronics during the tour?

You will have access to power in your ship cabins onboard the Greg Mortimer.

How much money will I need to bring?

Once you embark on the ship in Ushuaia your accommodation, activities, food, filtered water, and non-alcoholic drinks are included. You will need money to cover meals in Ushuaia, souvenirs, and alcoholic beverages should you wish to consume them.

Is it possible to have a private room?

It is possible to have a private room but be warned that this option is the most expensive cabin on the ship. You can book a single porthole or a twin cabin at 1.5x the listed per-person rate.

What travel insurance do you recommend?

Allianz Travel Insurance offers travel insurance, required for the duration of this trip, at affordable rates. Travel insurance will also reimburse you in the case of flight delays, medical issues, and more.

Is there an age requirement?

This trip is for 8 years or older. Anyone under the age of 18 must travel with their legal guardian.

What about visas?

Argentina is a visa-free country that offers visas on arrival for most passports. If you’re from the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, and most of Europe, you can enter for 90 days visa-free.

What if I test positive for COVID?

We understand this is a major concern for many traveling internationally right now. In the unlikely event that you contract COVID-19 while traveling with us, we will assist you in confirming your positive test results, finding a location to isolate, and rebooking your travel home.

If you are concerned about the cost of quarantine should you test positive abroad, ensure your travel insurance policy covers COVID-related expenses.

Is my deposit non-refundable?

Yes, the $1,500 deposit to secure your space is non-refundable and the remaining balance is due by November 1, 2024. If the trip must be postponed or canceled due to events beyond our control, the terms and conditions of Aurora Expeditions will apply.

Is there a waiting list?

We will do our best to accommodate everyone who wants to join us on this trip. This will be inventory-dependent. If the trip is full and you’re still interested, email us at [email protected] to be added to the waiting list and possibly a different departure.

Have another question?

Our email is [email protected].

Cancellation Policy:

We live in a fast and ever-changing world these days, which is one of the many reasons we require travel insurance for all of our trips. This also means that if you cancel your trip due to covered reasons with your policy, you’ll be able to file a claim and be reimbursed.

Your travel insurance will also cover trip interruption or cancellation, should something happen like a natural disaster or political unrest. It will also cover if you contract COVID-19 and cannot go on your trip.

Beyond that, please read the Aurora Expeditions Book With Confidence Policy. This document outlines the entire cancellation policy for this trip.
