This week’s Travel Blog Interview:
Reni and Marcel of the Swiss Nomads
We are Reni and Marcel, a couple who loves to travel and dive the world. We are both from the German speaking part of Switzerland.
We both grew up in small villages (in the Canton of Thurgau) on the countryside. What we love most about our hometown is that we can go mountain biking in the forest whenever we want. Nature is around the corner. As the public transport in Switzerland is very well developed its also easy to get to bigger cities as Zurich, Winterhur or St. Gallen. We love that everything is so close together. When we’re travelling abroad we like the opposite.
Marcel: Learning about different cultures
4. Job you left behind?
Reni worked as a PR consultant in a company specialised in tourism. It was a great job but also hard, because I had to organise amazing press trips for journalists and could not join them. Therefore I quit my job to travel the world longterm. And I never regretted that decision. Our second job is diving instructor, a job that gives us the opportunity to travel and work all over the world.
Marcel: I used to work in manaement positions in High-Tech companies. A very intresting but demanding job. One day we desided to travel the world so I quit my job and we sold most of our things back home. My second job is scuba diving instructor.
6. What kind of backpack do you carry and why?
A sherpa backpack that is about 10 years old. It is backpack that can be packed and opened like a suitcase. We can also use the backpack as a normal bag. They are robust but its definitely time to buy new ones.
Marcel: Watching Reni getting close with the morey eel.
8. Favorite ‘Off-the-beaten-Path’ place:
It’s probably not off the beaten path anymore but we loved the Gibbon Experience. It was a trekking and sip-lining tour in the Bokeo Natural Reserve close to Houay Xai in Laos. We lived in a treehouse (more than 40 meters above the ground) for 3 days. During the day we explored the rainforest on siplines flying through the rainforest in 35 meters hights. When changing the siplines we did some serious treks and we even saw gibbons one day. An experience we’ll never ever forget.
Eachother, ear plugs, Swiss Chocolate, our laptop and Ipod. We love to listen to music on our road trip around Australia.
Reni: The Millennium Series from Stieg Larsson
Marcel: Paolo Coelho, The Alchemist
Get up early. Or get up as soon as it is warm outside.
Marcel: DSLR, Canon, wide angle, macro, zoom lense, unfortunately the whole set is too heavy for backpacking.
14. Favorite kind of Pizza:
15. What is your average daily budget?
In Australia 80AUD for the two of us.
16. How many countries have you visited?
