If you have had Antarctica on your bucket list but haven’t pulled the trigger, now is the time. We have negotiated the price of a lifetime (35% OFF!!) and can’t wait to share this adventure with you.

“Antarctica is the last frontier.”

Our 2024 Antarctica Group making a continental landing at Portal Point!

Join Divergent Travel Trips for our FOURTH group trip to Antarctica! This trip will be our 8th trip to the 7th continent, and we can’t wait to share our favorite place on the planet with you.

Less than 1% of the population will ever visit Antarctica.

Spend 12 days with us on an expedition to explore the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands.

Our expedition dates align with PRIME whale season! We’ll also have the opportunity to SNORKEL!

Our trip will be operated in partnership with a top polar expedition company. This means we’ll have access to the amazing expedition guides.

We will spend expedition time crossing the Drake Passage, visiting the South Shetland Islands, and the Antarctic Peninsula. Each touchpoint offers you different landscapes to explore, wildlife to observe, and activities.

Every single day in Antarctica you will get off the ship! We are not just sailing by. You’ll get to touch, smell, feel, and explore this stunning continent.

Our expert expedition team will be off the ship with us, exploring and educating. Onboard, they will offer educational seminars so you can truly get to know this wild place.

Using the expedition ship, Sylvia Earle, as our base, we’ll explore this extreme region of the world in comfort. You’ll be offered prime photography opportunities and assistance with your settings to ensure you get great photos if you desire.

Daily activities include zodiac cruises, landings, snorkeling excursions (extra), paddling or kayaking excursions (extra), and wildlife spotting. Our days will be dictated by weather conditions and animal sightings.

Something to note: You do not need to be a photographer to join this trip. The focus of this trip is to provide a full immersion into the wildness of Antarctica. But, if you want to take photos, we’ll have amazing opportunities to do so.

If all you have is an iPhone, no worries! We can help you achieve the most with it.

If photography is of no interest to you at all, that’s ok too.

Trip Itinerary

Below you will find an overview of the expedition.

Note: Other than the days we embark and disembark the ship, this is not a fixed itinerary, however, this will give you an idea of what to expect.

We can arrange both pre and post trip exploration in Buenos Aires or Ushuaia, Argentina or anywhere else in South America. Just ask!

March 13, 2027 – Arrive in Ushuaia, Argentina

Welcome to Argentina!

Arrive in Ushuaia, where we will be met by a representative of Aurora Expeditions and transferred with our fellow expeditioners to our assigned pre-voyage hotel.

We will organize an optional meet and greet dinner for our group!

Overnight: Ushuaia, Argentina hotel

March 14, 2027 – Day Tour in Ushuaia and Embark Sylvia Earle

This morning, enjoy breakfast and check-out.

Those wishing to join our Lake Escondido tour today, will meet in the hotel lobby at 8.45 am. This tour offers us an unforgettable panoramic drive through big valleys of glacial origin, evergreen and deciduous forests, waterfalls and rivers, in the vastness of the Andes Mountain Range. We will leave Ushuaia city to the northeast of Tierra del Fuego, driving through peat bog valleys to reach Garibaldi Pass, only accessible by a winding road that will take us to a panoramic point. From here we will have amazing panoramic views of Lake Escondido and, if weather conditions allow, of Fagnano Lake. We will start our descent towards the northeast to reach Fagnano Lake’s shore where we will visit a local ranch. After appreciating the landscape, you will have the chance to enjoy the typical Fuegian Lamb barbecue. Enjoy some free time there before returning to Ushuaia for ship embarkation.

Alternatively, enjoy your day at leisure and meet at your hotel lobby or from the meeting point at the parking lot near the pier (details will be given by our ground staff at the hotel), to be transferred to the pier for embarkation.

Once onboard, you’ll have time to settle into your cabin before our important mandatory briefings. As the ship pulls away from port, we’ll gather on the deck to commence our adventure with spectacular views over Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego.

This evening get to know your fellow expeditioners and friendly expedition team and crew at a welcome dinner to celebrate the start of a thrilling adventure to Antarctica.

Overnight: Expedition Ship (B-L-D)

March 15 -16, 2027 – Cross the Drake Passage

As we commence the Drake Passage crossing, we make the most of our time getting comfortable with the motions of the sea. Our expedition team prepare us for our first landing with important wildlife guidelines and biosecurity procedures and start our lecture program to help you learn more about Antarctica’s history, wildlife and environment.

Our wildlife experiences begin as we enjoy watching and photographing the many seabirds, including majestic albatrosses and giant petrels following our vessel. On sea days, we can enjoy the facilities on board the vessel including the gym, wellness centre or the relaxing in one of the observation lounges.

Nearing the South Shetland Islands and the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula on the afternoon of day four, the excitement is palpable with everyone converging on one of the observation decks watching for our first iceberg. The ocean takes on a whole new perspective once we are below the Antarctic Convergence and are surrounded by the surreal presence of floating ice sculptures. The memory of your first big iceberg sighting is likely to remain with you for a lifetime. Time and weather permitting, we may attempt our first landing in Antarctica by late afternoon.

Overnight: Expedition Ship (B-L-D)

March 17-21, 2027 – South Shetland Islands & Antarctic Peninsula

It is almost impossible to describe the feeling of arriving in Antarctica. Spotting your first iceberg and taking a deep breath of some of the most fresh, crisp air on earth is an experience that will stay with you forever.

Once we arrive, the western side of the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands are ours to explore, and we have a host of choices available to us. Because we are so far south, we will experience approximately 18-24 hours of daylight and the days can be as busy as we wish.

Our experienced expedition team, who have made countless journeys to this area, will use their expertise to design our voyage from day to day, choosing the best options based on the prevailing weather, ice conditions and wildlife opportunities.

We generally make landings or Zodiac excursions twice a day. You will want to rug up before joining Zodiac cruises along spectacular ice cliffs or among grounded icebergs, keeping watch for whales, seals and porpoising penguins. Zodiacs will also transport you from the ship to land, where you can visit penguin rookeries, discover historic huts and explore some of our favourite spots along the peninsula.

While ashore we aim to stretch our legs, wandering along pebbly beaches or perhaps up snow-covered ridgelines to vantage points with mountains towering overhead and ice-speckled oceans below. If you have chosen an optional activity, you will have the option to do participate in the activity whenever conditions allow, and of course keen polar plungers will have the chance to fully immerse themselves in polar waters – conditions permitting! The polar plunge can take place at any time during the voyage, so listen out for the announcement from the expedition team and get ready for the most exhilarating dip of your life!

In addition to Zodiac cruises and shore excursions, we may ship cruise some of the narrow, dramatic straits separating offshore islands from the mainland, or linger in scenic bays to watch whales travelling or feeding. This is a great time to enjoy the observation lounge or make your way to the bridge (open at the captain’s discretion) for uninterrupted views of Antarctica in all its splendour. Listen out for the creak and deep rumble of glaciers as they carve into sea. Take a quiet moment to experience the wonder of the pristine paradise of the splendid white continent.

Overnight: Expedition Ship (B-L-D)

March 22-23, 2027 – Cross the Drake Passage

Enjoy a final morning landing in the South Shetland Islands before we re-enter the Drake Passage for our return journey to South America.

With lectures and film presentations to complete our Antarctic experience, there is still plenty of time to enjoy the magic of the Southern Ocean and the life that calls it home. There is time for reflection and discussion about what we have seen and experienced. We hope you become ambassadors for Antarctica telling your family, friends and colleagues about your journey to this magical place, advocating for its conservation and preservation so that they might one day visit the region to experience what you have been lucky to see and do here.

As we approach the tip of South America, our Captain may sail close to legendary Cape Horn, weather and time permitting.

Overnight: Expedition Ship (B-L-D)

March 24, 2027 – Disembark in Ushuaia, Argentina

During the early morning, we cruise up the Beagle Channel, before quietly slipping into dock in Ushuaia, where we will be free to disembark around 8.00 am. Farewell your expedition team and fellow passengers as we all continue our onward journeys, hopefully with a newfound sense of the immense power of nature.

Upon disembarkation, for those continuing their travels in the region, transportation to the hotel will be arranged exclusively for guests who have booked their accommodations through Aurora or for those staying in downtown areas near the port. Expeditioners departing on flights prior to 12.30 pm will be directly transferred to Ushuaia Airport, those with flights after 12.30 pm will have the opportunity to explore Ushuaia before an afternoon airport transfer, and the transfer procedures and details will be communicated onboard before disembarkation.

Note: At the conclusion of the voyage, we do not recommend booking flights departing Ushuaia prior to 12.00 pm on the day of disembarkation in case there are delays.

Trip Perks

If you’re looking for a trip to Antarctica at an insane value, this trip is for you.

This is one of our favorite polar expedition ships with many amenities.

Ezeiza Airport (EZE) is the largest international airport in Argentina and most likely your port of arrival. Most (if not all) flights from the USA arrive in the morning, and you’ll need to clear immigration and customs, then take a transfer to our included trip hotel.

You will then need to book a flight to Ushuaia, Argentina (USH).

Argentina is a visa-free country that offers visas on arrival for most passports. If you’re from the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, and most of Europe, you can enter for 90 days visa-free.

We will be visiting during the southern summer season. It will be during the warmest time for this part of the world. That said, temperatures will hover at or just above freezing for most of the visit. But the windchill can and will be cold.

The Sylvia Earle is considered a luxury expedition ship. It can accommodate a maximum of 130 passengers.

Room sharing – if you are traveling solo and select the shared room option, we will do our best to pair you with someone of the same gender. We’ll do our best to pair you with someone we think you’ll click with based on your signup forms.

We cannot guarantee that you’ll mesh well with your assigned roommate. This is very rare, but it does sometimes happen.

Things to Consider – If you like your own space after a day of adventuring, are a light sleeper, or snore, sharing may not be a good fit for you.

In the event that you are incompatible with your assigned roommate and need to change rooms, your trip host will either swap shared rooming arrangements or work with the ship to get you a solo room. Please note that if you have to switch to a solo room, you will be subject to a solo supplement.

If you sign up for a shared room and we are unable to pair you with another solo shared traveler before the trip starts, your booking may become a solo booking. If this happens, we will notify you and the single supplement will apply.

If you do not want to share, it is possible to have your own room with the additional fee of a single supplement.

Note: this option is limited.

It is possible to have a solo private room but this option is limited. The cost to have a solo private room for the whole trip is calculated at 1.5x the listed rate for standard cabins and 2x the listed rate for suites.

This trip is rated Moderate. You will be walking on various types of ground and loading/unloading into moving zodiac boats throughout the trip.

Due to the nature of being in the Antarctica, this entire itinerary is part of a supervised program. If you want to go on adventures, it has to be with our group. That said, if you want to forego any activities in favor of rest and relaxation on the ship, this is possible.

You will not have phone service once the ship leaves port in Ushuaia. The ship does offer WIFI packages. They can be purchased onboard. Please note, that they are expensive and slow. We recommend that you plan to disconnect entirely and be present while in Antarctica. It’s a place of wonders you do not want to miss.

Once you embark on the ship in Ushuaia your accommodation, activities, food, filtered water, and non-alcoholic drinks are included. You will need money to cover meals in Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, airport transfers, and souvenirs.
