“Enter the realm of the Polar Bear.”

Lina and David Stock in Svalbard

Join Divergent Travel Trips for our second group trip to the Arctic! We have been to the Arctic region six times, and we can’t wait to share its wonders with you.

Spend 8 days with us on an expedition in Svalbard, while we explore the most magical landscapes around the island of Spitsbergen.

Our expedition dates also align with PRIME polar bear and whale season! We’ll also have the opportunity to look for walrus, guillemots, rare ivory gulls, bearded seals, reindeer, and Arctic foxes.

Our trip will be operated in partnership with a top polar expedition company. This means we’ll have access to some amazing expedition guides and a stunning ship.

We will spend expedition time around the largest island in Svalbard, Spitsbergen. Each touchpoint offers you different landscapes to explore, wildlife to observe, and activities.

Every single day in the Arctic you will get off the ship! We are not just sailing by. You’ll get to touch, smell, feel, and explore this stunning place.

Our expert expedition team will be off the ship with us, exploring and educating. Onboard, they will offer educational seminars so you can truly get to know this wild place.

Using the expedition ship, Ultramarine, as our base, we’ll explore this extreme region of the world in comfort. You’ll be offered prime photography opportunities and assistance with your settings to ensure you get great photos if you desire.

Daily activities include zodiac cruises, landings, paddling excursions (extra), and wildlife spotting. Our days will be dictated by weather conditions and animal sightings.

Something to note: You do not need to be a photographer to join this trip. The focus of this trip is to provide a full immersion into the wildness of the Arctic. But if you want to take photos, we’ll have amazing opportunities to do so.

If all you have is an iPhone, no worries! We can help you achieve the most with it.

If photography is of no interest to you at all, that’s ok too. Bring your binoculars and get ready for some incredible sightings.

If photography is of no interest to you at all, that’s ok too.

June 27 – 30, 2027 Exploring Svalbard

Even in one of the most isolated regions of the Arctic, there is still the captivating history of a pioneering past. Our expedition leaders, along with the captain and onboard pilot, will determine possible landings each day for all-out explorations. Wildlife abounds throughout the archipelago of Svalbard, such as puffins, reindeer, Arctic terns and foxes. An expert photographer will help you look out for the perfect photo opportunity of these animals, but especially for the elusive polar bear. As Zodiac cruises may bring you closer to glaciers, keep your eyes on the water for whale fins.

A True Expedition — Our Captain will expertly navigate ice floes, icebergs and changing sea and weather conditions to ensure you experience the most from your expedition. Each day is a new adventure filled with a spontaneous sense of exploration as your Captain works with our expedition team to determine possible shore landings and Zodiac safaris. All itinerary routes serve as examples and are subject to change based on current conditions, prioritizing the safety and optimal expedition experience for all guests.

If you’re looking for a trip to the Arctic at an insane value, this trip is for you.

This is a luxury ship with many amenities included that you won’t find on other ships. This includes charter flights and a hotel pre-night and post-night.

Helsinki Airport (HEL) is the largest international airport in Finland and most likely your port of arrival. Upon arrival you’ll need to clear immigration and customs, then take a transfer to our included trip hotel.

You will need to arrive in Helsinki no later than 4 PM on June 25, 2027.

At the end of the trip, you can depart at any time on July 2, 2027.

Finland is located in the European Union. Visa laws for the EU apply to this trip.

We will be visiting during the summer season. It will be during the warmest time for this part of the world. That said, temperatures will hover at or just above freezing for most of the visit.

The Ultramarine is considered a luxury expedition ship. It can accommodate a maximum of 198 passengers.

Room sharing – if you are traveling solo and select the shared room option, we will do our best to pair you with someone of the same gender. We’ll do our best to pair you with someone we think you’ll click with based on your signup forms.

We cannot guarantee that you’ll mesh well with your assigned roommate. This is very rare, but it does sometimes happen.

Things to Consider – If you like your own space after a day of adventuring, are a light sleeper, or snore, sharing may not be a good fit for you.

In the event that you are incompatible with your assigned roommate and need to change rooms, your trip host will either swap shared rooming arrangements or work with the ship to get you a solo room. Please note that if you have to switch to a solo room, you will be subject to a solo supplement.

If you sign up for a shared room and we are unable to pair you with another solo shared traveler before the trip starts, your booking may become a solo booking. If this happens, we will notify you and the single supplement will apply.

If you do not want to share, it is possible to have your own room with the additional fee of a single supplement.

Note: this option is limited.

It is possible to have a solo private room but this option is limited. The cost to have a solo private room for the whole trip is calculated at x1.7 the listed rate for standard cabins and x2 the listed rate for premium cabins.

This trip is rated Moderate. You will be walking on various types of ground and loading/unloading into moving zodiac boats throughout the trip.

Due to the nature of being in the Arctic, this entire itinerary is part of a supervised program. If you want to go on adventures, it has to be with our group. That said, if you want to forego any activities in favor of rest and relaxation on the ship, this is possible.

You will not have phone service once the ship leaves port in Longyearbyen. The ship does offer WIFI packages. They can be purchased onboard. Please note, that they are expensive and slow. We recommend that you plan to disconnect entirely and be present while in the Arctic. It’s a place of wonders you do not want to miss.

Once you embark on the ship in Longyearbyen your accommodation, activities, food, filtered water, and non-alcoholic drinks are included. You will need money to cover meals in Helsinki, Longyearbyen, airport transfers, and souvenirs.
